Ford Courier

I’ve had my current car for 2 years and that seems like a record. My previous vehicle was an amazing little 1980 Ford Courier, that I sold a year ago. This was a true barn find that I bought locally. It had been parked for 20 years and had only 18k miles on it. I drove it for a while but the truck kept having some fuel issues. I rebuilt the carb, and then replaced the fuel filter, but the filter kept getting clogged. I finally had the gas tank pulled and cleaned. After that it ran incredibly, getting almost 40 miles to the gallon. I try not to regret parting with possessions, but I sure miss this truck. Oh, it also had this ridiculous donkey emblem on the hood with eyes that lit up.

The Courier was manufactured by Toyo Kogyo (Mazda), and imported and sold by Ford Motor Company as a response to the unforeseen popularity of the small Toyota and Nissan/Datsun pickups among young buyers in the West. Like the other mini-pickups of the time, it featured a sub-2 liter four cylinder engine, a four speed manual transmission, rear wheel drive, an impressive load capability of 1,400 lb (635 kg) considering its size, and a fairly small price tag compared to full size pickups of the time. To circumvent the 25% Chicken tax on light trucks, Couriers (as with Chevrolet LUV’s) were imported in “cab chassis” configurations, which included the entire light truck, less the cargo box or truck bed and were only subject to a 4% tariff. Subsequently, a truck bed would be attached to the chassis and the vehicle could be sold as a light truck.

This year we’re celebrating the 25th anniversary of winning our first NY State Championship. We then went on to lose in the National semifinals. God I wish I still had those green Cooperalls.

I’ve been going to this drop-in skate Tues. and Thurs. mornings before work. One of the regulars, Chris Jameson, is a photographer, and one morning he brought his camera to document the “action?”

It’s a good skate, but starting at 5:30 AM is way too f#@king early. Thus, all the excitement on the bench.

Aspen Peeping

We were heading back to Salt Lake City from Park City and decided to head over Guardsman Pass. Nothing beats Autumn back East, but I was blown away by the color of the Aspens. Taken with my Droid, adding a little cross processing using Vingette.

For me, this is incredibly inspiring. Whether it’s the content, the Sigur Ros soundtrack, editing or color filters, I’m moved. I don’t know if I should start racing cars, filming stuff, become a mechanic or just move to France.

Heath Ceramics

Since I started throwing pots about 12 years ago I’ve always admired Heath Ceramics. Heath Ceramics is one of the few remaining mid-century American potteries still in existence today, founded by Edith Heath in the mid-forties. They have been making tableware and tile for over a half-century in their Sausalito, California factory.

Pillow Talk

People who know me, know I love to spend time at Joann Fabrics.

Well actually I just went there for the first time, but what the hell, sewing is kind of fun. I had a bunch of fabric left-over from various upholstery projects and decided to make some pillows. I decided to hire someone to teach me how to sew. We couldn’t work out a time and I thought maybe I could figure it out on my own. 15 minutes later I said to myself, “Holy shit using a sewing machine to make a pillow is ridiculously easy.”

I don’t know how to do the closing hidden stitch, luckily Brenna knows how. Now everyone gets a late Xmas present and I can say I was planning on giving them one all along!

Gingerbread house

My attempt at a gingerbread Farnsworth house using a gingerbread kit during our company Christmas party. It took about 30 minutes using whatever we could find in our photo room. Sadly, no one really got it, although the best comment I heard was, “that’s a really cool double-wide.” Maybe they did get it after all.

Birthday time again, I don’t really care except for the cake. Brenna keeps resetting the bar and this year was another classic. Last year’s Obama cake was pretty amazing but a Cylon cake with real lights on it’s head. INSANE!!! So I fell in love with Battlestar a couple of years late. But watching it straight through on BluRay, makes me so happy.

I’m speechless. Brenna’s Grandmother knitted Jett 5 sweaters and they are crazy good. She is so talented. We only have photos of him wearing one, but I thought I needed to take photos of the rest to share with you. Unfortunately, she’s in the hospital recovering from heart surgery, please send this amazing lady some love.
